About Invisalign Orthodontics

Invisalign Orthodontics are a series of clear plastic trays that are worn to shift the teeth to the proper alignment. An alternative to traditional metal braces, Invisalign trays are removable and plastic. Many patients opt for Invisalign orthodontics because of the convenience.

Unlike conventional orthodontics that require lengthy procedures and frequent appointments, the plastic trays can be used without ever entering an Orthodontist’s office and check-ups are once every four to six weeks.

If you are looking to fix minor issues with your teeth and don’t want to be bothered with all the orthodontist appointments, Invisalign may be the right fit for you. It is also a simple, rather affordable method to fix overcrowding or slight misalignments.

Patients love the ease of treatment and end results they get with Invisalign orthodontics.  Typically used on patients that are over the growth spurts, adults are ideal candidates.  They are designed to straighten teeth over time to improve a patient’s smile and/or oral health.

More about Invisalign

Invisalign invisible aligners are made to be invisible and removable. This not only makes treatment convenient but also less invasive and more discrete.  In addition, this allows the process to be a bit more comfortable than that of traditional metal braces.  The smooth plastic trays tend to not irritate the gums and cheeks as much as the metal brackets. You remove the inserts to eat and brush your teeth. This makes it much easier to keep the trays and your teeth clean, because food won’t get stuck in them. Since there is nothing glued or stuck to the teeth, food won’t get stuck and reactions to glue used with traditional orthodontics are not a concern.

Just like braces, you will have follow up appointments to keep you on track. Dr. Guttry will check to make sure you are using your invisible aligner trays properly. These check ups are to ensure you are on schedule and making progress. Some people’s teeth take to Invisalign rather well and move quickly, while others can be a bit more stubborn.

In most cases, aligners are changed out to the next phase every two weeks or so. Not staying on schedule can affect the outcome and even undo progress.  We encourage you to set calendar reminders and attend your appointments as scheduled. Often, straightening your teeth is more than just improving your smile. It may also improve your oral health overall. Crooked and misaligned teeth are harder to clean. In turn Invisalign orthodontics can help prevent cavities, correct your bite and improve your appearance.

FAQs

The average cost of Invisalign for adults is a bit more than traditional braces but they do have some advantages as listed above. They tend to be $3500-8000 but your dentist can give you a more accurate price. Some insurances do cover this treatment as it is an effective orthodontic treatment. They are just as effective as the metal brackets when used properly.

The typical Invisalign treatment takes 12 months to complete, however, the actual time varies for each person. Most patients start to see a difference within 3 months of starting treatment. Your timeline will depend on the severity of your alignment issues. For example, a mild case of over crowded teeth may only take six months to fix and a small gap can be closed in as little as 2 months. Alternatively, more sever gaps and crowding can take longer than a year to correct. Patients are encouraged to wear their Invisalign 22+ hours a day to prevent treatment from being delayed and ensure continued progress.

Invisalign treatment is less painful than traditional metal braces. Anytime teeth are being moved, some discomfort should be expected. Most patients experience slight pain within the first few days of using a new alignment tray. The discomfort is temporary and subsides when teeth adjust to their new position.
